Commentary
Today’s main task was to do a bit of maintenance on this website. Actually what I wanted to do was to build an excel spreadsheet-based system that would automatically generate template HTML code to make blogging on long multi-day trips easier. It sounds fairly simple – and I thought it would be when I started – but it ended up taking me most of the day.
Val went on a run while I was doing this, then when she returned we treated ourselves to a salmon salad for lunch. Very healthy.
Later in the afternoon, I took Val over to the airport to catch a flight to London. She’s paying a flying visit to family and will be back tomorrow evening.
By the time I returned, the day which had started so promisingly rapidly began to deteriorate. So it suited me to stay in, keep dry, and finish my work on the computer. Eventually, though, it was completed so I decided to take a short walk to the shops to get some tomatoes.
As soon as I stepped out into the open, I realised this might be a mistake. It was pouring, the wind had got up and it felt freezing cold. Anyway it was the perfect opportunity to test out the new waterproof case for my Pixel navigation phone (it worked brilliantly).
I duly collected my tomatoes, returned to the flat, and changed out of my wet gear. I was soaked, even though I had only been out for half an hour.
For dinner I roasted some monkfish tail with lemon and bacon (courtesy of Dunnes), which I served with salad and spinach. I hope I’m not taking this healthy eating too far..
The evening was finished off with a travel video about Uganda on YouTube. Very interesting, but it didn’t make me want to go.
