Commentary

We had a meeting in Dublin this morning and – in order to save ourselves a half hour in bed – we decided to drive in. The drive went straightforwardly, if slowly, and we were lucky to find a parking slot right where we needed to be. Once we’d finished, we drove back to Malahide, which was quicker than the inward journey, though still surprisingly busy.

We were back in the flat by early afternoon so got some lunch – we’re still eating up leftovers from Christmas / guest visits – then considered the afternoon. I felt that I needed to continue working on my pace, so went for a jog around the Demesne. Val, perhaps more wisely, decided to put her feet up while I was out.

Last time I did a workout focused on improving pace, I had alternated 1km slow jogging with 1km of brisk walking. On reflection, I felt I had actually found the running slightly easier than the fast walking, especially once I had adopted a more “toes first” running style – which had actually been recommended by my hip surgeon. I was pleased to cover 5.5km at a pace of 7m15s/km, which I think is my longest and fastest run since I had my last hip operation.

The rest of the day was pretty low-key actually. We decided to take the easy option and get fish and chips for dinner, which we enjoyed while watching a couple of episodes of “Mad Men” on Netflix.

So – another busy day is drawing to a close and it’s time to think about tomorrow. It’s Important to grab life by both horns. There’s no time to waste!

Setting out – it’s staying noticeably lighter in thee evenings, but the sun is still well buried in the treetops before 3pm
Looking a bit weary at the end.   A lot of work to do!
