Ireland day 0551. Sunday 02 April 2023- First Club Walk
Today’s summary Val was at work so I had a free day.   I decided to join the Walking Club for a short walk along the estuary from Malahide Station.   My first Club walk since the operation.   A nice, sunny day and it went well.   Fish for dinner!
Today’s weather Bright and sunny all day.   Light easterly wind.   Appx 10C

(Summary blog only.   Last full blog was Day 0368).

I decided to take another step forward in my post-operative rehab today, by joining a short Walking Club stroll for the first time in over a month.  Val was at work so once again breakfasts and packed lunches were made, and then I set off to join the walk.

Fortunately, today’s excursion met up at Malahide station so it was easy for me to get to the start.   The easy access and the fact that the weather looked good – and the forecast was fair for the whole day – made the prospect of a sociable walk and chat even more enticing.   As it turned out, there were 21 of us on the walk, and the route was perfect for my semi-invalided condition, being a short flat hike along the Broadmeadow estuary.

There was so much news to catch up on as we walked that I barely noticed the views (which were stunning, actually, in the rain-washed clear sunshine, and I did manage to notice the thatched cottage on the estuary road for the first time).   After a short break for lunch, sitting on the shore, we turned back and retraced our steps to the station.

So it wasn’t a long walk, but it was good to be back with other people and to enjoy the company of some fellow walkers.  Unfortunately next week’s walk is up in the mountains near Djouce, so I think I’ll have to miss that one.   But in 2 weeks’ time I should be more mobile again, and also able to drive, so I hope to be able to pick up then where I left off today.

So now it’s back to the real world and time to think about making something to eat for dinner.   I think it’s going to be fish (frozen) and vegetables, followed by Christmas pudding.   I’ll just have to take a bit more care not to pull any teeth out this time.

Today’s photos (click to enlarge)

Heading back to Malahide and enjoying the sunshine Actually looking quite summery, with the wild mustard plants blooming in the foreground.   Quite a cool wind though
Looks like I’m getting a history lesson!
One of my favourite stretches of the south side of the estuary – where the Gaybrook stream enters the sea.   Plenty of water in it today, after all of the recent rain
