Commentary

(Summary blog only.   Last full blog was Day 0368).

It was the first day of Spring today (hoorah – at last!) and I had a good night’s sleep last night so all round I woke up feeling pretty good this morning.   But there was one fly in the ointment.   Last night, I was enjoying some reheated Christmas Pudding for dinner which unfortunately was very sticky.   So halfway through, when I felt like I was chewing I stone, I feared the worst.   And sure enough, I had pulled the crown off one of my dental implants.

So my first task of the day was to make an appointment at the dentist to get it fixed (luckily I hadn’t swallowed it or else the process could have been a whole lot more unpleasant).  Once I’d had breakfast and got washed and dressed (which takes ages when you are hopping around on crutches), I decided to push my daily walking a bit further and also to include a gentle hill-climb.   So I set off, and to my relief successfully completed, the Paddy’s Hill circular walk.   It’s one of my local favourites and it didn’t disappoint today, with mild conditions and a fine view from the top.   On the way back, I did a bit of shopping then came back to the flat for lunch.

Suitably energised after my longest post-op walk to date (at over 7km), I hoovered round everywhere then spent another couple of hours doing yet more Spanish homework (I really am making heavy weather of this!).  Inbetween lunch and Spanish I fitted in yet another visit to the Malahide dentist where my crown was glued back on again for the princely sum of €150.   Still, I suppose it could have been worse.   Now, at last, I have finished my chores so I’m going to have a cup of tea and cook up some bacon and eggs for dinner.

Finally, I’m going to brave the Dublin buses again to go out to the airport to meet Val.   A pretty hectic day, and I haven’t even had time for my now-customary snooze yet!

€150 to get it glued back in again.   Still, it would have been (a lot) worse if I’d swallowed it
