Ireland day 0460. Sunday 01 January 2023- Starting 2023
Today’s summary Val was back at work in the museum, and I decided to walk down the coast to Howth.   The tide was out so I managed to get round on the shore past the Sutton golf course, and on all the way to Howth.   Sadly it didn’t rain so I couldn’t try out my new paramo jacket.
Today’s weather Overnight rain cleared to leave a bright morning with some sun.   It clouded over in the afternoon and looked threatening but never actually rained.   Moderate westerly wind.   Appx 7C

Happy New Year and welcome to 2023!

Val celebrated by going to work (in the museum) and while she was out I decided to walk down the coast, over Paddy’s Hill and via Portmarnock, to Howth.   It’s a good walk, with excellent walks from the hill, and great seascapes along the way.   The tide was helpfully out today which meant that the shoreline was exposed around the golf course at Sutton.  That meant for the first time I could walk right round the outside of the golf course, staying on the beach, and avoid a section of road walking.   Even better – the weather stayed dry despite looking threatening.

Although there was a slight disappointment on the absence of rain as I got a new Paramo jacket for Christmas and I wanted to test out its water resisting capabilities.   Still, I expect there will be plenty more opportunities.

From the top of Paddy’s Hill, near the new flats.   I love this view over Dublin Bay to the Sugarloaves (Little – the small bump to the left centre of the horizon; Great – the larger bump on the centre horizon)  On the beach at the end of the Sutton golf course, only exposed at low tide.   The sand on the horizon behind me is the southern end of the Portmarnock peninsula
