Commentary
We are country-hopping again today. Back to Dublin after our sojourn in the south east of England. It’s been pretty busy and to be honest I’m looking forward to a few slightly quieter days now.
Anyway, we were up early and off to Liverpool Street station in time to catch the 10:25 train to Stansted. It’s a very comfortable quick and easy journey, but just as on the way in to London, I found it very expensive (£25 each way).
When we arrived at the airport, there appeared to be a long queue (it’s school holidays at the moment) for security but actually it was very efficiently managed and we were through in 15 minutes. There was just time to get a cup of tea and something to eat before heading to the gate and then more or less straight onto the plane.
The flight was completely full and Val and I had to sit separately. But everyone boarded without fuss and we actually pushed back almost ten minutes before the scheduled departure time of 11:55. It was a quick and uneventful flight, though as I was in a middle seat on the back row, I was glad it only lasted an hour.
We landed in Dublin on time at 13:15 and were on a 102 to Malahide just a few moments later. Once back in the flat, we were unpacked in next to no time (another advantage of travelling light) and ready for a cup of tea.
The rest of the afternoon was passed in a relatively conventional fashion. A quick walk round the Demesne (which was looking very autumnal) and then into town to do some odd jobs. Actually quite important ones.
First off, I called in to the dentists to make an appointment to have my teeth looked at. I managed to pull out a crown the other week while I was flossing (luckily I retrieved it before it met an unfortunate biological demise) and also I lost my house key while travelling last week. So I’m booked in to have the tooth superglued in again on Thursday morning, and got a new front door key cut for €5.50. So all’s well that ends well, I think.
In the evening, for dinner we had a delicious curry that Val rescued from the freezer. Then we spoke to family in Canada, watched some Netflix, and got an early night.
Normal service will be resumed tomorrow.
