(Summary blog only.   Last full blog was Day 0368).

We’re having a short break over the weekend, down in the south west of Ireland.

We drove down to Cork in the morning – through unexpected pouring rain for much of the way – then spent the afternoon looking round the town.   I hadn’t been for 45 years (so didn’t remember much) and Val had never been.   So it was a very enjoyable, if rather chilly, exploration.  The English Market was by far the best market we’ve come across so far in Ireland, with a huge range of exotic and local fruit, veg, fish and meat.

Then we walked over to the iconic Saint Fin Barre’s cathedral and somewhat reluctantly paid €6 to go in and have a look.   It turned out to be money well spent, as it was very interesting inside.   From there we walked on to the Crawford Gallery and spent most the time, actually, enjoying delicious tea and cakes in the Green Room Café.

Finally, we left Cork and drove a further half an hour south to the coast at Kinsale where we have a lovely AirBnB for two nights in a boathouse right on the water’s edge.   Got the curry in the microwave now, and soon it will be time to open up a couple of beers.   Perfect!

Conger eel and monkfish for sale in the English Market.   I think I’ll give them a miss Inside St Fin Barre’s Cathedral
The Crawford Gallery The Green Room – a really nice café in the Crawford Gallery
The bicentennial Canova casts in the Crawford Gallery Our rather lovely AirBnb literally on the water’s edge in Kinsale harbour.   Who needs a TV when you’ve got cormorants and herons to watch right from your bed?
